First-person narration creates sympathy for the devil when he tells his side of the story. A key point about first-person narration-it creates sympathy for the teller. Alex assumes that we will understand him and his actions sympathetically and identify with him because we are like him-we're brothers. Alex tells his story to the readers, whom he repeatedly addresses as you, "o my brothers (p.1)."
